Simple Question:
I know the website footer notes which version of NPM is running. How do we tell which version of APM, NCM, NTA, etc is running?
Hi all,
not sure if it has been added in 9.5 or before:
X:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Orion\SolarWindsVersionChecker.exe
HTH,
Yann
It's not easy to find for sure. I've asked a few times for them to put the versions somewhere on the poller engine status page, or somewhere on the admin page.

In another thread, a thwack member pointed me towards opening regedit and digging around in there. I found the version for NTA< IPAM, APM, but could not find any setting for NCM.
Also, this is a ridiculous method for determing which version we are at. The last thing we want to do is dig around in regedit.
SW, please make this something easy. When walking into a new Orion environment that was set up by someone else, and charged with admining it, it would be nice to know what version we are running.
Thanks Yann! That is exactly what I was looking for. This must be new to 9.5?
Thanks again!
So if I run the utility it shows me the correct version for NPM, but when it shows for NCM does match what is displayed on the bottom of my NCM webpages.
Version checker indicates: NCM 5.0 SP2
Web indicates 5.5
Anybody else see similiar?
Same here. It lists NCM 5.0 SP2, when infact we are running 5.5 sp2.
I have NCM 5.5 installed here and it does not list it.
Is it correct for all the other programs beside this issue?
The way i've accomplished this is by logging into the server, going into the Program menu, then under the respective module, and then the License Application.
i.e.
All Programs -> SolarWinds Orion -> Application Performance Monitor -> License Application Performance Monitor
You can see the current version there.
An old thread but maybe one that needs refreshing.
I'm tring to find a satisfactory way of determining what versions, service packs and hot fixes are installed in our SolarWinds environment. We have NPM, Additional Polling Engines, APM, NTA, NTA for APE, NCM, Additional Web Server, Kiwi Syslog & Engineers Toolkit. FoE & Storage Profiler have yet to be installed. Our environment was installed by an external contractor and I have been tasked with seeing what updates we need to apply so first I need to find out where we are right now across the range of products that make up this environment.
I don't know of a single consistent or foolproof way of finding out EXACTLY what version and patches we are running. There are suggestions about using the bottom of the NPM screen, SolarWinds Version Checker, logfile inspection, looking in the Windows registry, using the Product Licensing shortcut, using Help (Engineers Toolkit) etc etc. There appears to be conflicting information provided and I haven't been able to locate the information on service pack or hotfix installs which I think is a necessary and basic requirement to managing the environment.
There also doesn't appear to me to be a consistent way of representing the versions eg. 2010.2, 2010.2.0, 10.1, 1.0.0, SLX, ALX. What do these all mean?? Is 2010.2.0 v10 sp2 hotfix0? What do SLX and ALX actually mean? Is there a diagram somewhere that shows the components of the overall environment and how they relate or own/use major modules or are they all just individual silos reading/writing from/to a common databases?
Our environment shows the following:
Bottom of NPM Screen - SolarWinds Orion Core 2010.2.0, APM 3.5, NPM 10.1, NTA 3.7, IVIM 1.0.0 1995-2010 All Rights Reserved
SW Version Checker - same as NPM Screen
Logfile Inspection - don't know which logfile to look at and where for the various products
Windows Registry - prefer not to use this for getting this information unless it is the only way. If the only way which registry keys are relevant for which products?
Product Licensing Shortcut - NPM reports v10 - SLX, APM reports v3 - ALX. These are not consistent with the other information above in relation to the .x part of the version.
Using Help
- in Engineers Toolkit - reports v10.6.0.84 - how does this translate to v10.6 HF4 or something similar?
- in Orion NPM System Manager on App Server - Orion Core 2010.2, System Mgr Version 2010.2.0, NPM Engine 2010.2.0
HELP! I confess to being a relative newbie with SolarWinds but it shouldn't really be that hard to find out this type of information. I'm especially interested in understanding how to find out the service pack and hotfix information. I'd appreciate any assistance or reference to an existing explanation that I haven't been able to find.
I second this request for a clarification on this issue.
