Getting serial numbers into node details & reports

Hi All,

I've enabled the custom MIB poller to cover the 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.2.19 (chassisSerialNumberString) and I can pick it up fine by adding the "custom poller status" section into the node webpage.

However, I can't find any method to show this in the "node details" element in the system manager, neither can I find any way to add this into a custom report.

Please could you point me in the right direction?

To what report type are you trying to add the custom poller info? They don't appear to be available to all report types within Report Writer, as I assume they are not always applicable.

As for adding this to the node details resource, I've not yet done it myself, but I see no reason why it can't be done with a little coding.

I am trying to add it into a customised inventory report, but cannot find any way to add this as a field / variable / whatever.

As for "a little coding" - could you maybe be more specific please (which file to edit, what code to add etc).

If you are trying to create an "inventory report" within Report Writer, it doesn't have a mechanism to associate data collected via the custom mib poller to a device. I imagine this is by design, as there are many factors involved based on the type of data being collected, and the simplest approach is to park it in its own tables, but there are ways to get around that..

First, you can create a "custom SQL report" that includes the queries necessary to make the correct associations and display the custom mib data along with any other info you would like to represent for your devices. I'll play around with that a little and see if I can come up with an example.

Another option is to create a SQL job that queries the custom poller data and writes the appropriate values to a custom property that you've created for each of your nodes, then schedule it to run at some interval. With this, you can then create a simple "inventory report" from within Report Writer and include the data in the associated custom property.

The final option is to create a completely new web resource that incorporates all the appropriate SQL queries and formatting necessary to display all the info you wish to show in your report. This one is a little more involved, but it can be done. We created some resources like this in our environment for tracking inventory and site specific info via the web, but we have not yet had a need to incorporate any custom poller data.

Like I said, I'll play around with option 1 and see what I can come up with. Naturally, there are a number of variables that will differ between our two environments, but hopefully I can come up with something that you can use as a guide to suit your needs.

OK, I've played around with this a little, and here's what I came up with...

First, like I said, there are a lot of variables involved, but below is a simple (well, kinda) example of how to create a custom SQL report in Report Writer that links info from the Nodes table with the corresponding custom mib poller data. This example is specific to our environment, and the resulting report will show the Caption, IP Address, and custom mib poller data associated with PollerID "{3824D0AE-04AB-4188-B1FF-7F237C9D097E}", which again is specific to our environment.

Here's the SQL query:

Select Caption, IP_Address, (Select Status from CustomPollerStatus, CustomPollerAssignment Where CustomPollerStatus.CustomPollerAssignmentID = CustomPollerAssignment.CustomPollerAssignmentID AND CustomPollerAssignment.NodeID = Nodes.NodeID AND CustomPollerAssignment.PollerID = '{3824D0AE-04AB-4188-B1FF-7F237C9D097E}') as 'Value' from Nodes Order By Caption

Hopefully I understand what you are trying to accomplish, and you can modify/expand this example to work in your environment and suit your needs.
