Two different groups of Unknown?

As of last Friday Orion decided to create a 2nd "Unknown" group for my nodes. It sorts by Vendor and then by MachineClass. At the Vendor (top) level I now have two Unknown groups, why is this?

As you can see one is "[Unknown]" and the other is "Unknown" and I don't know what the difference is and why I all of a sudden I have them both when before I only had the first one.

One is an empty string, the other is a null string. I think they're supposed to be null.

So, it seems to me something is not functioning properly.

Maybe so. At the very least, it's some sort of hiccup.

The same thing happened to me on Friday. I changed them all to null this morning. So far that seems to have fixed it.

Well, I am going to hope that somebody from SW will chime in on this one. I really don't want to open a support ticket if I don't need to.

I see something similar in my Orion.

My first UNK group (12 count) is all ICMP and the next is all SNMP in UNK states (3 count).

It may be unrelated. I installed SP1 for SQL Server 2008 near the end of last week. Did anyone else do the same?

Yes, we see exactly the same on our system. '[Unknown]' are devices that are only ICMP monitored and hence have no SNMP data whereas 'Unknown' are SNMP monitored but do not have a corresponding entry in the sysobjectid database.

In my case none of them are SNMP monitored.

Well it would seem the difference between them is the ones categorized as "[Unknown]" have nothing in the Vendor field versus the ones classified as "Unknown" have Unknown in the Vendor field.

Now I am curious what causes the system to fill that field in with Unknown versus leaving it blank?
