Orion and ISA2004
duckfather
Hi
I've read in the Admin guides that Solarwinds have tested but do not advise using Orion on any box with a personal firewall on it. Unfortunately, It's looking increasingly likely that I'm going to have to move our version of Orion from the box it is on now to a box that has IS 2004 (standard edition) on it.
Does anyone know of any issues / showstoppers etc that may occur if I install it on there?
Thanks in advance
Andy

Hi Andy,
You will have to make sure the ISA server is configured to allow ICMP for polling UP/DOWN status of devices. Further, SNMP will have to be allowed from any device that is being monitored. If your SQL server is going to reside on another box you will have to open up the ports to allow communications with it as well. Oh, and if that wasn't enough, if you have multiple pollers you will have to open even more holes in the ISA server.
So, as you can see, it is probably not a good idea to place Orion on a server that is acting as a proxy/firewall.
Be fantastic.
