Does anyone have insight into monitoring Servers with multiple NIC's?

Is there a way to set the Primary NIC in the O/S?

How does one weed through the additional IP's when performing discoveries and using NCM?

Would Alert Suppression help in preventing Alerts when a secondary IP becomes the Primary?

I think there is a way to set bind specific things to a NIC but it also depends on the OS.

As far as Orion NPM is concerned, it will only see one IP on a system; that being the IP you used to discover the node. It will see the additional NIC's but only at layer 2. If you don't care about getting data on those additional NIC's (such as them going down) you can simply remove monitoring from them or flag them as "Unplugged" in Orion.

What specific problems have you encountered that we can specifically try and help you address?

If I have

server1-N1, IP 1.2.3.4

server1-N2, IP 1.2.3.5

server1-N3, IP 1.2.3.6

If any one of these goes down, I would like and event triggered.

If two of them go down, again another event.

However if all three go down, I want an event but I also want an Alert triggered stating that Server1 went down.

Is there a place to be able to have this sort of logic?

The first and last scenarios are simple enough. The first would be three separate simple conditions bound by an ANY qualifier. The third situation would be the same three statements with an AND qualifier. The middle scenario in which you want to know if any TWO of the three interfaces are down at the same time is a bit more difficult.

Any SQL gurus know how to do that?

However this would mean a seperate alert for each occurance. I may have up to 700 of these.

Yes if there are any SQL guru's, your expertise would be appreciated.

Perhaps a syntax match, before an alert triggers see if there are any with the same caption *-N1, check status if = '1' don't trigger, if all status = '2' fire alert
