Limiting interface views by user?

We currently provide customers access to MRTG graphs that show them their bandwidth utilization. Those MRTG graphs represent the physical utilization of an interface on a network device.

I would like to be able to replace this functionality with Orion since it collects all of that interface data already. The problem is that I don't know how to set thing up in such a way that specific customers will only be able to see the interface graph(s) for their connections without being able to see the entire device and all of the other interfaces.

Any suggestions on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Are your customers logging in to the Solarwinds web portal to see these statistics? If they are you can create a custom interface property and then apply an account limitation based on that custom property.

If I recall correctly, you can have a node limitation, a interface limitation and then a volume limitation applied to the same account. Account limitations are hard limitations unlike a view limitation, if the user doesn't have permissions to view a particular object it won't allow them even if they know the correct URL.

Well, that is one step in the right direction. Now for the next problem...

How do I configure things in such a way that a customer's view shows them this information without having to build a custom view for each customer?

This is what I have done.

I have a node field called "Grp".

I created a limitation based on this node field.

Based on the user or the view I can apply this limitation... by checking on groups they can access.

If the limitation is based on the user... no view is needed to be messed with because the limit is carried by the account.

Thanks; however, this doesn't solve my problem.

We are a managed service provider and our services include both managed servers as well as high-speed connections.

I want to be able to setup a view in Orion so that when a customer logs in they have access to see just their servers as well as their bandwidth usage.

The server part is easy, I have already done that, the bandwidth part is where I am struggling. As previously mentioned, our customers bandwidth is tracked via a port on a network device. Therefore, I need to allow customers to see their servers as well as the interface information for some set of specified interfaces.

Doing something like this seemed like it would be easy... I was wrong... again. = )
