Large Installs, what does your infrastructure look like?

If you look at my sig you can see the size of our install. Our server layout is below. I am just trying to setup SolarWinds to scale well since we will continute to grow quickly as well as add many web users. I was just curious what other large installs may have done to keep performance in check.

SOL1 - Main box

SOL2 - NCM

SOL3 - Secondary Poller

SOL4 - dedicated SQL

SOL5 - web

SOL6 - FUTURE - hot standby engine

SOL7 - FUTURE - 3rd poller

SOL08 - FUTURE - load balanced web server

Donald,

We have two different Orion deployments with the following;

Deployment 1

Orion - 10K elements
Orion Polling Engine - 10K elements
Orion Polling Engine - 10K elements
DB Server

Deployment 2

Orion - 10K+ elements
EOC/NCM - Same server
DB Server

What are the specs of your pollers and what CPU/MEM percentages do they normally run at?

Xeon 2.00GHz 4.00GB of RAM for the pollers, DB is pretty much the same but 8.00GB of RAM because of Netflow.

Nothing is really even close to being maxed out CPU/MEM wise.

How many CPUs and how many cores on them?

I have 2 pollers currently 1 is the main box and it is taxed a good bit but the secondary poller which polls for all the network devices is slammed. It has abour 7000 elements but they are 3/4 interfaces so there is a lot of polling going on.

What version of SQL are you running? Sorry to bring up an old thread, but we're running nowhere close to this with major performance issues on the SQL box. Think it may have to do with memory limits of 2005 standard.
