Catalyst Backplane Utilization
cshiver
I'm trying to figure out a way to monitor backplane utilization on my Catalyst 6500, 5500, and 4500 switches. I can't see any way to do this with Orion (unless its supported with newer versions of the CatOS).
Besides monitoring every port and adding totalling the aggregate to determine backplane utilization has anyone found a good cheap (or free way) to do this? I suppose WUG snmp grapher might do it but haven't tried it yet.
Thanks,
Chris

Apparently they are working on implementing NetFlow and/or MLS stat polling
for an upcoming version. In the meantime, you could try something like PRTG.

NG, do you have any specifics about SolarWinds adding NetFlow functionality to Orion? Could that be in version 8? I saw a demo of a monitoring system that took advantage of NetFlow and the information you can pull is impressive.

This is all the info I have seen about it. Unfortunately, there is very little info on
new features planned for the next software release. That seems to be the nature of most
software development these days. I guess it's the only way to stay ahead of the pack...
