Alert Manager

Hello,

I apologize in advance as i am new to this forum. I hope someone can help guide me in the right direction...

We have Alert Manager setup to alert on a triggered condition which runs 24x7x365. A requirement has been raised to see if it is possible to suppress and/or prevent alerts during maintenance windows for this specific resource. For example the request is to prevent alerts between 9:00PM to 9:20PM on Mon/Wed/Thur/Sat. Is this possible? If so, how do i accomplish this?

There's nothing pre-defined within the alert that would allow for this. However, you can use the unmanage scheduling utility on the server to set up a schedule in which the node becomes unmanaged during those times. Just note, that means that neither statistics will be collected or alerts will fire against the device(s) for that period of time.

This is what I usually do during maintenance windows and it works quite well for us.

Thanks for the reply. I took a look at this and found that what i am trying to accomplish may not work as we are trying to unmanage a load balancing pool (instance) that is being monitored via a custom device poller. It appears that the utility will unmanage the entire appliance which is not desirable in our scenario. Are there any custom methods i could take to do this by chance?

You could do a couple of things. You could either disable the alert prior to maintenance starting. Another option, one we utilize here is to use a custom property called maintenance that is a yes/no flag. You could then add a condition to the alert that Maintenance is equal to no. From there, you can create two SQL jobs that run at these specific times that set the value to Yes prior to the start time, and sets the value back to no after the end time of your maintenance window. It's a bit time consuming to set up, but it allows for what you're trying to do.
