Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
MIBs

Looking over the Orion forum, I think our manager didn't understand what they purchased. We were looking for an SNMP manager. It appears that Orion does
SOME
SNMP but is by no means a true SNMP manager. Am I correct in that Solarwinds Orion:
- Doesn't include a MIB walker?
- Doesn't support compiling and installing new enterprise MIBs?
- Doesn't support setting variables by OIDs?
These are all basic SNMP management functions. I hope these functions are included... we just got the software and are bringing up a server for this solution.

Orion manages networks using fairly common SNMP items. Compiling MIBs and working with enterprise MIBs are not options currently. Working with specific OIDs is also not part of the package. A MIB walker is a part of the engineer's toolset. While working with OIDs is a basic SNMP function, software which manipulates these in any way you like isn't necessarily going to be as basic.
For the needs of many networks, Orion is sufficient. It depends on what you need to monitor and how much money your organization is willing to spend.
You may want to touch base with whoever evaluated the program and see what their input was into the decision and look at what else may have been reviewed. It sounds as if your input into the decision was absent.
