Hot-Standby engine for NPM

Hi

I'm after some documentation for Hot-Standby installation.

I've hoped to find some documentation but nowhere to be found on the website.

Please provide me some information regarding:

- What sort of server configuration required

- How remote servers need to be configured to accept the traffic from this standby server?

- Will the standby use the same IP as the main server or we need duplicated access rules to all of our devices?

The documentation coming with the Standby engine are detailing how Orion can be administered.

Ooops. I have another question. When the Hot Standby is running dormant, the Alerting Engine is stopped. During the tests we ran, when it fails over the Alerting Engine does not start. Should this be the case? How can we get this to start?

I have read the material and I still have some questions about the Hot Standby. Basically it seems like this takes over for the polling of the main NPM server. We have an additional poller. I assume the load balancing portion that goes to the main NPM will fail over to the Hot Standby?

Our help desk accesses SW via the web. When the Hot Standby kicks in, will they need to point to the IP of the Hot Standby or will it assume the main NPM IP? And we have traps sent to the main NPM. If there is no IP rollover, then we will need to configure the devices to send traps to both the NPM and the Hot Standby?

Any help would be appreciated.

Is the Configure Hot Standby step of the section "Configuring a Hot Standby Engine" (i.e. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Monitor Polling Engines) not working for you? As an alternative, try to right-click the Hot Standby Engine, and then click Configure Hot Standby. If neither of these work, you may need to open a support ticket.
