Hyper-Threading (on or off)
Mithrilhall
I'm curious....
We have a Dell PowerEdge 1850 (Dual Xeon processors) with Hyper-Threading enabled. This makes the server look like it's running 4 processors, which...allows any process running to take up to 25% CPU but no more.
When I start the server the NetPerfMonServi goes right to 25% and stays there. I then start the Orion System Manager and it takes quite a long time to for it to fully load (sometimes up to 20 minutes or more) and this is not counting the Baseline Calculation.
So my question is...Would it help if we turned off Hyper-Threading so NetPerfMonServi could use more CPU? I'm hoping this will speed up Orion System Manager.

Turning off Huper-Threading will probably not help. You are fulling using the processor, it is just that the OS is dividing by 4 instead of 2 when reporting.
If you are running less that the 7.8 build of Orion. I would suggest you upgrade. A few changes where made to the system manager so it could pull information directly from the database instead of the service during startup. Also, to improve the load time in 7.8, the Node Tree, on the right side of the system manager was changed to dymically load subtrees as needed instead of building the entire Node tree at startup.

Thanks.
I'll download 7.8 and do the upgrade today.
Much appreciated.
