Need Pollers To Monitor Windows 2003 Server

Hello all,

This is my first month using NPM v9.1 SP5, and I had to add 2 nodes which are Windows 2003 Servers. Now they are not being polled by the default existing pollers and the blinking icon on the node is grey which I believe must be because it has no communication with the NPM as for polling. Am I right? And so I need to have a custom poller. What kind of custom poller should I create, or is there any existing Universal Device Poller for this kind of work that I can import? I looked through the UnDPs uploaded here, but it seems like all are for hardware. I didn't find any for a Windows Server polling.

If you know of any such custom pollers, or could help me in any way, I would really appreciate.

NPM is for monitoring the hardware. You want APM for monitoring the software side of the server.

You are correct, ensure SNMP is turned on the Windows server and we have the correct community strings to gather node details about the box

No, this is unrelated to Orion APM or to customer pollers. It seems that your Orion NPM server cannot even get basic information from your two Windows 2003 nodes.

Do you have any nodes that you can already successfully monitor with Orion NPM, or are these the first nodes you have added?

Do you have some firewalls blocking SNMP communications?

Can you verify that on the Windows 2003 Server nodes, you configured Windows SNMP to correctly respond to packets from the Orion NPM server host?

As a basic test, can you add your Orion NPM server as a node and make Orion NPM monitor its own server?

I have over 200 switches which are being monitored perfectly on NPM, but these 2 are the first Servers (Windows OS).

There are no firewalls blocking SNMP communications.

And on the 2003 Server nodes, Windows SNMP has been configured.

I will go ahead and try adding the Orion NPM server as a node and let NPM monitor it and see if I can figure out where the problem is.

Can you do a MIBWalk of the server t ensure it respond to SNMP there?
