Solarwinds Screen Rotation (DataCenter Views)

Hi All,

Firstly I apologise if I have posted this in the wrong place, I am not 100% sure where it belongs so feel free to move it if needed.

What I am looking to do is this, we have 2 or 3 large LCD Screens mounted on the wall of our office, which are used by 2 or 3 different teams for various monitoring / alerting tools. At the moment Solarwinds is 1 of them, but it is a static display. There are 2 or 3 other applications which I would like to display but we have no more LCD screens or wall space !.

What I would like is for the screens to rotate different information every few minutes, say for example:

Screen 1 = Solarwinds Page 1 (2 mins) / Solarwinds Page 2 (2 mins) / HP Server Maintenance Website (2mins)

Screen 2 = Application Performance Website (2mins) / Solarwinds Page 3 (2 mins) / Random Site (2 mins)

Screen 3 = BBC News (2 mins) / Random Website (2 mins) / Call Ticket System (2 mins)

I have been told to do something like this I need a web server, but I was looking for advise, as I am sure some of you guys on here are working in large Data Centre or NOC environments, and probably have similar setups with LCD's for the Operations teams, if you could explain what you have and how you use it, or what you recommend I would be eternally grateful.

If you use Firefox, you can use one of the add ons called "Tab Slideshow." You just open each web page in a separate tab and the Tab Slideshow add on will cycle through each tab. You can set how long (in seconds) each tab is displayed before cycling to the next tab.

Hi,

Anyone aware of a product that will cycle through application tabs rather than just cycling through a screen in firefox. Some monitoring solutions use a Java or client and if we can swop between sw and these other on a screen it would be useful.

If you're not allowed to use Firefox in your envrionment and don't mind using iFrames there is some javascript I found that will allow you to rotate through different pages. It is fairly easy to use and configure. That's what we've been using to rotate through different map pages.

If you are unable to find a product that would do this, then you may want to use autoit.

You specify the application name/Window Title (My Application - Windows Internet Explorer)

Tell the mouse to click in an xTab1,yTab1 coordinate or issue key stroke (depends because x,y will change based on screen resolutions)

Initiate a pause

Tell the mouse to click in an xTab2,yTab2 coordinate or issue key stroke (depends because x,y will change based on screen resolutions)

Initiate a pause

Tell the mouse to click in an xTab3,yTab3 coordinate or issue key stroke (depends because x,y will change based on screen resolutions)

Initiate a pause

loop the steps so it starts all over. AutoIt is a great tool if you are trying to replicate or automate a task with repetitive steps

I actually found this neat little script that will cycle through application tabs:

So you cycle through your Kiwi Syslog, Orion Views, Macafee EPO and whatever you want.
