Alerts - monitored device list help

Is there a way to put any logic to selecting which interfaces to monitor? I would love to be able to select interfaces based on REGEXP or something. All of my customer end devices names start with R-XRT...It would be perfect to be able to select interfaces based on that. Anyone else run into this issue? Is there a way to do this behind the scenes with SQL?

Oh... I thought you were asking for a way to designate which interfaces to "monitor" (include as monitored elements), which is different from which ones to alert upon.

with the basic alerts, I set a bandwidth threshhold of 50% util. and wanted to get emailed on it. I did not want to monitor all interfaces, just the "customer" WAN interfaces. I was saying it would be nice to be able to use a regular expression or some method to select those in groups rather than having to check/uncheck. I haven't looked to see if the advanced will do what I want yet....

The advanced alerting engine will do what you're looking for. You can easily set it up based on text in the interface description, or assigned custom properties. That's the beauty of advanced alerts.

Hopefully, you're running v8.1 with the latest hot fixes, as this is said to provide the most reliability as far as the advanced alerting engine.
