Has anyone developed custom tri-color icons to share?

I need to find (or create) 10 unique shaped tri-color icons to represent buildings associated to their connected buildings.

I have tried the Visio technique but using this technique it only colors the area behind the icon, not the icon itself.

I know I can go through the process of getting a shape and created 4 copies (up, down, warning, unknown) per shape but was hoping someone in the Orion community has already done some and wouldn't mind sharing.

I encountered the same issue and was unable to find any ready made to download. Visio has some common type but yes a status needs to be defined. I used the traffic light method for my first icon set created and have since added more common devices like routers and switches. You need to convert the image file to .EMF or WMF you cannot simple rename the extension. I used a shareware program called Advanced Batch Converter v4.0.18.

I created a new subfolder under "Program Files\Solarwinds\Orion\Maps\NetObjects\Scaleable" and keep my sets separate from the default sets.

J EXAMPLE

Each instance needs to be a separate Icon/Image with status of –up / -warning / -down. Hope this helps?

hi, could you explain this method by which you get these 4 different icons to associate to a single object? I have made 4 different icons for the various states that a device can be in but I cannot figure out how to combine the 4 images together to make a single icon? I'd be happy to share the ones I have created once I get this method sorted out

I've done this, but with node icons. in visio, create/copy your icon. ungroup several times to verify no groupings left. change background colors. save as different names and change colors accordingly as vsd. YOU ALSO NEED TO SAVE AS .wmf types (see attached for some examples), as this is what Orion uses. Save to %Orion%\maps\netobjects\scaleable\xxx

They will then show up for use in map maker under the folder you created.

Does this procedure still apply to 9.5??? with network atlas?? if i create the multiple files it only read the normal icon and puts an ugly coloured square behind it....

yes, it should still work, depending on what properties you have on the object. I set mine to tri-color and have the 4 WMFs per object. i.e. cisco.wmf, cisco-up.wmf, cisco-down.wmf, cisco-warning.wmf.

You have to put them into %SW install dir%\Network Atlas\Maps\NetObjects\Scaleable\<dir name>

I have found you have to put these on the web servers AS WELL AS on the systems you are running network atlas on to create the maps.
