Displaying Custom Pollers that return a string

I would like to know how to deal with custom pollers that return a string, like the Cisco Serial number poller someone kindly uploaded. When I try to add it, it wants to make it into a gauge!! Also, can the results of custom pollers be used in Reports? When I was unsuccessful in adding the Serial number to my Nodes Detail Page, I tried to just do a report, but did not see any of my custom pollers as resources there. I am using Orion 9 SP2. I am very new at custom pollers, so please forgive my newbie questions. -Debbi

If you go to the content exchange there's a couple of people that have posted Cisco Serial Number UnDP and other Cisco pollers that don't exist natively in NPM.

Do you mean "Reports" as in the Report Writer? Or Reports as in a resource? If you're returning a string, you can show it as a table on your node details page.

Both chart and table are greyed out, leaving only "gauge" as a choice. I will view the video in case it has some magic for this.

I mean reports as in report writer.

You can actually go to Admin > Manage Views, selelct Node Details and edit which resources show up. The UnDP Console is just a shortcut to editing this. It's not the only or most powerful way.

Well, after watching the video and monkeying around with this, instead of getting the serial number of the selected node, every node's detail page showed the serial number of one particular switch at our Animal Serivces site! Pretty funny, not sure I could do that again! Needless to say, the UDP is powerful, but perhaps not as simple to get right as you make it sound.

1. Is it possible to use the results of custom pollers in Report Writer?

2. Can you set the frequency of the poll? I do not need the serial number polled every time statistics are gathered. It should probably only be done, on our network, during rediscovery.
