ESX Host Gray Out

I have a few esx hosts that always go to gray out status - I have removed them and re added but they gray out again.

Is there a fix I am using NPM 10.5

What version of ESX/ESXi are they?

The server is 4.0

I've experienced some issues with 5.0 and HP G8's where the SNMP Daemon would crash periodically when attempting to poll. I didn't have any G8's running 4.0. Do these happen to be HP G8's?

The hosts are Dell R910 and 2950

This is the message I see -

So you've configured the SNMP agent on them, you're able to poll them successfully for a short period of time, and then they go grey? If the agent is configured correctly have a look at this guide to check the log file for issues with the SNMP agent: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2033466

If the agent hasn't been configured, use this guide and the remote CLI to configure it: VMware vSphere 4 - ESX and vCenter Server

Looking in to the issue it appears that the host grays out under the virtualization view - if I go to the host directly in NPM I can view the server?
