Hardware monitoring for IBM AIX 6.1, 7.1 and VIOS in NPM

Hi All,

I would like to know if there is any possibility to monitor IBM AIX 6.1, 7.1 and VIOS in NPM for hardware health.

I know I have to use UnDP but are there any existing Pollers or OIDs available since I did not find much information for IBM hardware on the forum.

Hi,

I found a load of them here but to be honest, aix is a unix based operating system meaning most linux oids will work.

What about the standard linux oid's? Are you sure you snmp strings are setup correctly?

Yes SNMP is correctly configured.

Disk Statistics

The snmpd.conf needs to be edited. Add the following (assuming a machine with a single ‘/' partition):

disk / 100000 (or)

includeAllDisks 10% for all partitions and disks

The OIDs are as follows

Path where the disk is mounted: .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.9.1.2.1
Path of the device for the partition: .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.9.1.3.1
Total size of the disk/partion (kBytes): .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.9.1.6.1
Available space on the disk: .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.9.1.7.1
Used space on the disk: .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.9.1.8.1
Percentage of space used on disk: .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.9.1.9.1
Percentage of inodes used on disk: .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.9.1.10.1

I tried this .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.9.1.8.1 but the AIX devices I have is showing OID not supported.

I would get onto ibm, this is weird behavior in my view. When i did it i had no problem in retrieving values.

Yes I have requested the Unix admin to check on this...could be that the SNMU sub agents are not enabled or some other issue....

Should not need an agent to be fair, as long as snmpconf -i has been configured correctly for all oid with no restriction and service snmpd restart has been run, you should have no problem doing an snmp walk.
