what do you see as the source, most times, for generating these reported Errors & Discards?
we see a lot of these but really don't know where to start looking - bad cabling - MTU - traffic bursting - ethernet port auto sensing - etc.

Discards could be from over utilization of a circuit or quick spurts of bursty traffic (buffers can't keep up and have to discard). Errors are usually from cableing or a bad nic.
We see a lot of input discards on our firewalls. After looking into it every acl hit that gets denied is logged as an input discard.
Errors are the ones you should pursue. As said, there are multiple normal sources of discards that are not a reason for network attention. Even in duplex mismatch, we get discards + some other type of error (FCS).

I saw a post by someone asking is provide a sortable order would satisfy people needs. It would for probably all of us, but that post is now about 18 months old and still no sign that this, incredibly common issue will be addressed.
