Hey all,
Is there a way to change the sample period that Solarwinds uses when forecasting volume usage?
It appears to use all available historical data, but I'd like to modify ours to only look at the previous 2-3 months.
Thanks!
Appropriate nodes, interfaces, or volumes must be managed in Orion, and by default, the database must contain at least 7 days of historical data.
If you'd like to change settings, you can
Thanks, Janene. That definitely changes how the capacity forecast is displayed.
I should be have been more clear. I'm really interested in changing the sample period in order to make forecast alerting more accurate. Is there a way to do that?
Not at this time. Your best bet would be to adjust the following settings for that object to best suit your need.
I too have wanted some configuration around the volume forecast calculation. I find the forecast is inaccurate on younger volumes and I would like to set a minimum duration. Say 3 months until a calculation is presented. I end up having to explain why the volume is forecasted to be at capacity in negative 15 days because the volume went from 0 to 50% full in 1 day during a server build a month ago. I don't feel negative values should ever be allowed in regards to days until warning, critical and capacity. I'd also like the ability to reset the start measurement (Aavg?) as often a young drive will fill up fast during its build stage but then hold at or near that level for months. The forecast calculation is tied to that initial measurement before the server was completed and doesn't reset until its 180 days old. I like the theory behind the volume forecast but I don't think its a useful feature in its current form.
I tried opening a Solarwinds case for this question, but was told the functionality doesn't exist.
