QoE alerts - how to identify node name

We are able to receive QoE alerts, however the alert doesn't identify the node name that the affected QoE application belongs to. I searched all the variables, and cannot find one for node name. When I try to add the variable ${NodeName}, the alert ignores it.

Can you please tell me what variable I can use for "node name" for QoE alerts?

Alert configured as:

CRITICAL: QoE application ${N=SwisEntity;M=Name} for ${NodeName} network response time ${N=SwisEntity;M=NRT} which is > 350 ms

Alert Sent

CRITICAL: QoE application MS SQL for network response time 32.1340864348132 ms which is > 350 ms

Based on your output, I'd say that the Nodename field is Null since it's not giving you an error and is parsing the variable. Have you tried using Caption?

I have tried ${Caption} along with the others below:

${N=SwisEntity;M=Caption}

${N=SwisEntity;M=IP_Address}

${nodeid}

${NodeName}

${Caption}

${NODE.CAPTION}

${IP_address}

${N=SwisEntity;M=IP_Address}

When I simulate the alert, nothing of the variables above populate a "Node Name" or anything I can use to identify the node.

Results show up as:

${N=SwisEntity;M=Caption}

${N=SwisEntity;M=IP_Address}

${Caption}

${NODE.CAPTION}

${IP_address}

${N=SwisEntity;M=IP_Address}

I'm going to wait until the next real alert comes through, and see if any "real" results actually come through with the variables defined in the Message.

I checked one of my canned Alerts that include the device name and it used the following:

${N=SwisEntity;M=DisplayName}

I also use this trick in order to peel of the domain part of the FQDN. This works as long as you have no periods in your device name.

In my case, a few of our nodes are in by IP address, so the statement is a little convoluted.

${N=SWQL;M=SELECT CASE WHEN CharIndex('.',caption)-1 < 5 THEN Caption ELSE SUBSTRING(caption,1,charindex('.',caption)-1) END AS nofqdn FROM orion.nodes n WHERE NodeID LIKE '${N=SwisEntity;M=NodeID}'}

If your nodes are a little cleaner, you could get away with

${N=SWQL;M=SELECT SUBSTRING(caption,1,charindex('.',caption)-1) FROM orion.nodes WHERE NodeID LIKE '${N=SwisEntity;M=NodeID}'}
