Orion V8 Install - Unexpected Error
FormerMember
Install seems to run fine. Once it says the license is installed. It pops the "Updating System Configuration, Please Wait..." I get "Unexpected error; quiting" screen.
Any ideas on this would be appreciated.

Renamed the Solarwinds Directory to Solarwinds-backup. Reinstalled, got the same error message. Double clicked on the Orion System Manager icon to see what would happen. I get this message first: The wizard need to restart so an upgraded file can be reloaded". If I click the "ok" button. I get the same message again.
If I click the "cancel" button, I get this message: "The wizard was unable to initialize SQL DMO. To resolve this problem, try Reinstalling Orion or Reinstalling the SQL Client".

Doing a little searching through the forums, I find a post by EricM on 9/19/2006 discussing a knowledge base article
support.solarwinds.net/.../ProblemDetail.cfm
. I tried re-registering the SQLDMO.dll per those instructions. When I try, I get this error message: DllRegisterServer in c:\program files\solarwinds\common\SQLDMO9\SQLDMO.DLL failed. Return code was: 0x8002801c

This is a windows 2000 server with MS SQL Server Standard Edition. My NetPerfMon DB is current 10Gigs.
I have sent 2 e-mails to support. I realize that Monday is probably pretty busy, but I'm in a bind.

I am having the same problem, was there a resolution to this?

Took 1 1/2 days for a ticket to be opened (still a little miffed about that). They said they have never seen this error before and it has been escalated to Tier 2 support.

Sounds like Im in just as big a bind as you, I was supposed to have this up 4 days ago. I tried everything you did and got no where. Good luck with Tier 2, i hope they help, if you find a solution, can you post it? I have the Engineer's Toolset on my server and im migrating to Orion for the Network Monitor and I just thought the two could not co-exist on the same server, but after reading your post, it must be something else. I hope you get somewhere....

I requested that they give me access to the 7x version again. I'm uninstalling the broken 8x version and will try to re-install the version 7x code.

OK, I have 7.8 running on my machine again.
I uninstalled 8 and renamed the Solarwinds directory under Program File to Solarwindsbackup.
Interesting thing, during the install of 7.8 I got an unexpected error as well, but the configuration wizard still ran and things seem to be working for right now.
Since our IT is in the middle of a freeze, I will need to wait until March to try this again. But I think this time, I'm going to have the 2 pieces split. The DBA's want to put this on a seperate server and I will put the polling engine and IIS on it's own box. For right now, I'm holding my breath as this puppy churns a little to get everything up to date.
