Install License key on temp copy or wait?
dsullinger
We have a 30 day install of Orion SLX. It timed out yesterday, but I also received our full license for SLX yesterday. We were testing it on a pretty under powered server. It was a dual 1GHz Xeon Proliant and we were monitoring about 400 nodes and just under 10k interfaces. We've ordered 2 new Proliant servers that both have dual 3.2GHz Xeon CPUs, one for SQL and the other for Orion.
Do you think we should just wait to install the new license key until we get the new servers? I noticed the license is tied to the server name and I know the new server will have a different IP and name.
Also, when I get the new server up and running, should we start a new discovery or can we just pull the database over from the temp copy?
Thoughts?
Thanks in advanced

It is extra work moving the database to another server, but if you have the time it
is not too hard. Once you get the new servers, you can just phone or e-mail Solarwinds
to reset your SLX license. Then you can install on the new server and be up in a matter of minutes. Make sure you have your database copied onto the new server before installing
the Polling engine and website on the other server.
Also, I have found there is a licensing conflict if you leave the old server up and running on the network. You will also have to run the Polling Engine Load balancer on the new server to change the Polling Engine ID in the new database, as well as running a query to
change the Alerting engine ID to the new server.

I'd say it's best to wait for the new boxes to arrive.
Since the database on the Eval is a SQL as well, it should be no problem to bring over. There are instructions in the admin manual.
I'd wait on virtue of 7.2 coming out very shortly.

7.2 is now available on the website for registered users.
