I'm trying to figure out if I can create a blanket email alert for devices, but have devices that are dependent on other devices not alert when their dependency is down. Here's the breakdown:
1. Wireless is connected to a switch which connects to router.
2. If router goes down, don't alert on switch or wireless
3. If wireless goes down, but router is up, alert on the AP.
Right now, the above works with 2 alerts. I created an alert to check for the router status with a tier level of 1, switches are tier 2, and the others have a tier level of 3. To suppress the alert, I have the suppression set up to say if tier 1 <> up, then don't alert on the wireless being down. I have the email set up under these two alerts.
What I'd like to do is have 1 email set up for all of my wireless devices, 1 set up for routers, and 1 set up for switches. I'm not sure if this is possible though. Here's what I *think* will happen, and please correct me if I'm wrong:
1. I create a wireless email alert to check the comment as wireless, tier 3, and if node status is up.
2. I will get an alert for any and all APs that fall under this category (which would work), but then I don't know how to compare to see if the city is, say Chicago. If the AP goes down in Chicago because the router is down in Chicago, I believe I'll get an alert for the router and the APs that are on that network.
Is it possible to have a blanket email set up to be able to cover all of the devices, yet still be able to compare what the location is?
I'm probably not making any sense
