Orion DB maintenance

Hi,

we operate an Orion NPM v9 SP2 w. 2 pollers and 9.000 objects. The DB became fairly big, around 57 GB

I had try to decrease the historical data from 1yr to 6 months but the "run maintenance " is stopping at 30% claiming that an operator stopped the task.

A couple of questions:

1) There are any special requirements (like having free space in the hdd as the db size, no operator should be logged-on etc) in order to run the DB Maintenane?

2) Is there any way using SQL statements to decrease the historical data kept in the DB?

Which tables are the largest? Depending on what they may be, you can truncate them to reduce the size of the DB.

Also, the DB size on disk is 55 GB while the actual data only 12Gb
I had run the SQL Shrink from the ent.manager but did not help

The next step for you would be to truncate this table. In order to truncate this table please go to your DB Manager from the Orion application. Be sure to run a backup and stop your polling services for this to take affect.

From here find the SQL Server on the left pane then drop down the tree until you find your DB (Usually defaulted as Netperfmon). Then find the Trapvarbinds table.

From here right click to query table then when the window pops open click read/write then refresh. Delete out what is populated in the Query command table and input in "Truncate Table TrapVarbinds" then refresh, get out of DB Manager and run maintenance then compact and repair. Then start your polling service back up.

What version are they using? Do they also have netflow? There was an issue with the TrapVarBinds table not getting cleaned up properly, but that was fixed in 8.5.

Mark....I was going to post a new thread but I saw this. I was just looking at my DB and noticed alot ofr free space. I thought the DB maintenance took care of that? See the attached screenshot.

I do have NetFlow and it is the biggest table, NetFlowSummary3, at 2.9GB.
