No interface percent utilization or port device information for certain network devices

Hello All,

I am running NPM 11.0.1 and am having an issue. First of all, We inherited this Solarwinds implementation from someone else who has since left the company and we are still trying to figure everything out. I'm not sure if we'll ever figure it all out .

Right now I am trying to figure out why some of our managed nodes show interface information (interface utilization, port information such as MAC address, IP, hostname attached) in the NPM Web Console while others do not. When we are in NCM and poll the interfaces we get the port information as to whether is administratively up, functionally down..etc. But in the web console we get none of the port info. We do get other info like the switch name, cpu/memory utilization, etc., just not the interface utilization

Is there a certain command that we need to ensure is in the config file of the switches or is it something we need to configure when adding the node?

These are all Cisco switches, mostly 3560G models.

NCM and NPM operate independently of each other. NCM will inventory all the interfaces which is used for reporting and also can be used to build your config change templates.

If you want to see IP, MAC, utilization, on your interfaces, those interfaces need to be managed (licensed) by virtue of your NPM license. You can drill down to your Node details view, click on List Resources and select which interfaces you would like to monitor. If you want to do this across multiple devices, you can setup a network discovery (from Settings) and select the interfaces from the discovery results.

Thanks! That did the trick. The Interface Utilization showed up now! I'm guessing it will take a while before I can see the interface/data usage over time charts.

On some of the switches I have a section called "Port Information" where it shows the ports and also gives the IP, MAC, and hostname of the device attached. That isn't showing up just yet when I look at the node details..perhaps that also takes some time.

More than likely the resource you are referring to is coming from User Device Tracker. Can you check the footer of your web console? Does it have UDT listed as one of the products?

OK that did make sense. We DID have user device tracker for a trial period but it expired. I'm guessing it's just showing static data from when it worked .

is there another way to get this data in Solarwinds through a report? I mainly want to know what devices (IP or hostname will do) are connected to what ports so we can do some cleanup in our network configs and document each interface with the actual host attached to it.
