Remote Polling Engine

Has anyone attempted or thought of doing this?

Sample Setup
Site 1 - with Orion NPM
Site 2 - remote office
Connection between the two sites is vpn over the internet.

Objective - to manage and monitor all devices at Site 2 from the NPM at Site 1.

Problem - since it is a vpn connection the data collected from Site 2 will not be a true representation because it is being gathered over unreliable public internet.

Question - is it possible to deploy some remote polling engine at Site 2? The remote polling engine will then collect the data from all of the devices at the site. The data will be then send back to the Orion NPM for analyze and reporting purposes.

Can this be done without installing a second Orion NPM at site 2?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you have servers at the remote office for the users, why would you NOT want to poll them from the Main office?
I know what you're asking, but wouldn't you want to see what the latency & performance is for the users at the remote office connecting through the VPN?

You would have to deploy a second polling agent at the remote site, which means another Orion license, if you want to monitor each network locally.

You can get a remote polling engine for orion which links back to the main NPM, we are currently running this scenario and it works really well.

Hi Jonchill,

1- We are Solarwinds Reseller in Pakistan. I am currently working of Pakistan,s first MSP deployment. My customer wants to use the Polling Engine at site 2 without Orion NPM. Will it work OK while it have to go to Orion NPM through a WAN Link.
