Need some dynamic resources on a customer view

We are an MSP and we use an Orion suite to monitor customer devices and applications. I would like to create both reports and PerfStack projects showing essentially the same information for every customer, but have the content be filtered based on the customer viewing it. In other words, I want to place those resources on a common view for all of our customers so that when they login, they can click on the report or the PerfStack project and see the latest data for their "stuff". The report needs to be exportable to Excel so certain customers can do further offline data manipulation.

Has anyone done this sort of thing? Will custom SQL/SWQL be involved? Thanks for any help.

You can't have a common view for each customer that then shows different information. You would need to create a view per customer that would only have access to "their" devices. You can certainly duplicate the 'original' view and then modify the restrictions as applicable for that customer.

This isn’t true you can have a common view as long as you use Account limitations properly and remove some troublesome widgets that “leak” information such as Events etc.

Reports again honour Account Limitations so if setup properly will only show the customer information.

Agreed. The common view with an account limitation is a good option. Basically what I am after is the ability for any of my customers to access their filtered view, then generate a report that has charts/tables with utilization and throughput data for certain interfaces over defined time periods and with certain statistical parameters defined. We are currently exporting chart data from the Interface Details view and then going through some statistical manipulations in Excel. We have a lot of customers and this task takes a lot of man-hours. I am hoping to have Orion do most of this work automatically.

Reports respect the account limitations of the person running the report. So if you create a generic account they will only see information they have access to. Scheduled reports need an account to be specified for the schedule to select the right limitations.

Charts might be harder as you’ll need to use a custom query to select a different interface per customer

Yes, I'm envisioning a custom SWQL query (not SQL if I can avoid it) that would use a custom property that dynamically maps the source interfaces in the report to the customer logged in. Not usre how or if that will work, but again - my main goal is to simplify and automate the process of a customer generating their own traffic reports.

If anyone has some thoughts on how this might work, I would be happy to hear about it.

Ah yeah, brain fade! Account limitation versus view limitation. I agree account limitation is the way to go.

I am also trying to accomplish the same. I have everything segmented by custom property between customers. Up until now we have been creating individual views off of a template, but it's becoming hard to manage. Having a single dynamic view for this would save us a lot of headache. Most widgets work just fine based on the account limitation, but I'm trying to accomplish adding a few custom widgets based on our unique situation. I can't seem to find a way to pass a custom property as a variable to a SWQL or SQL query/chart/etc. widget. Anyone have any tips there? I'm just not thinking its possible, but I'm not totally sure.
