Error trying to bulk add devices

Question

I'm trying to add about 30 switches at once using the NPM website and tried it two different ways (one using an IP range and the other using a 'bulk input') and get the same error:

Error during import.  Check running services and try import again. Cannot import nodes to Orion. Unable to cast object of type 'System.DBNull' to type 'System String'. at Orion_Discovery_Results_Results.ProcessNodes()

Yes, all Solarwinds services are running on the collector.  I'm running NPM 9.5 SP3, with a seperate database server.

Any ideas?

I found this post when searching for the same thing "Unable to cast object of type 'System.DBNull' to type 'System String'" but was disappointed to not find a solution.

After spending much time with Solarwinds Support, we finally found the problem.

Open SolarWinds Database Manager (Start>All Programs>SolarWinds Orion>Advanced Features>Database Manager)

Expand SQL Servers, Expand local, Expand NetPerfMon Database

Find Engines Table

You can either double click on the table or right click on the table, then click Query, then click Refresh.

There will probably be two EngineIDs listed, with the first one being "1" and the second one being "4."

EngineID 1 probably does not have a server name or IP and all of the other fields are blank, if this is the case, then:

* 1.) Change the radio button from "Read Only" to "Read-Write"
* 2.) Right click anywhere on row 1
* 3.) Left click on Delete Selected Rows
* 4.) For good measure, make sure to restart all of the Solarwinds Services
* 5.) Open Orion Service Manager (Start>All Programs>SolarWinds Orion>Advanced Features>Orion Service Manager) Shutdown Everything (wait for all Services to Stop), then Start Everything.

None off the top of my head jump out here.  Best bet is to open a support case to investigate further
