Our application monitoring leverages the standard Host-Resources-MIB, which may not be provided by AIX natively. To add this MIB support for your Unix/Linux machines, our customers have typically have leveraged the free Net-SNMP agent (http://sourceforge.net/projects/net-snmp).
HTH,
Can I just extract the host-resources-mib for AIX and load it rather than installing another tool on my AIX server?
I have run into a similar problem trying to monitor AS/400 systems with processes, I can run a dump on the 400 to pull in resources however not all are listed. The only thing I could come up with is that the programs on a 400 do not program to meet standards of reporting items to snmp. The dump only listed 6 items for me, if anyone has successfully monitored a 400 with processes I would be most grateful!
I'm having same issue receiving host-resources not support when attempting to monitor AIX procs using native AIX snmp procs and net-snmp.
We've successfully compiled net-snmp on AIX 5.3 and are able to walk from host-res tree OID: 1.3.6.1.2.1.25 and enumerate proc info using other 3rd party applications and monitoring tools except for NPM'S Application Module. The AIX system now also comes up with the NET-SNMP icon instead of the usually IBM icon when the native AIX snmp procs are running.
Is there anyone out there that has ever been able to enumerate AIX processes using the NPM App Module?
Thanks in advance
I have been attempting to get full SNMP monitoring of AIX through Orion for about four years without success. Support has been of no use either. They say that some of their customers have used NET-SNMP to get the data, but have no details. I have tried various version of NET-SNMP without success. Support doesn't have any AIX to test with, and they don't care either. Our Unix team is pricing out other monitoring packages that will monitor AIX. If anyone has had any luck with AIX, please respond to this forum and provide us exact details. Thanks.
What OID did you use to get the Memory? I have not been able to find any OID's for that.
WINNT, thanks for the info. I've been looking for other monitoring routes myself. I'm currently looking into loading sysedge client on AIX.
even m looking for the exact OIDs for AIX 6.1, 7.1 and VIOS...does anyone have it? I want to use in UNDP for hardware monitoring.
