Atlas custom icons / images

There have been several threads on this over various versions of Atlas however I can't find a solution that works for me in 1.5.0.45.

Basically I'd like to replace the available status icons with something that works better for our company. Ideally it seems like I'd want to edit a basic overlay with replacement graphics. i.e. swap out the standard square with our own images. I understand the overlays can be edited as wmfs and even when I do this the change does not get picked up. Best scenario would be the ability to create new overlays of our choosing.

Going the custom icon route I don't see in the documentation a way to show a custom critical status. Up, warning, Down, External, etc work but there seems to be no method documented to add a critical icon.

Anyone have any suggestions or tricks that have worked?

The naming convention follows:

Critical status iconName-critical.wmf

I'll make sure the documentation is updated accordingly.

Thank you that was indeed it, I thought I had tried that but I must have mangled it somehow.

For the icon images themselves are transparent gifs not supported? Color wise they appear to work but I'm still getting a white block around our icons which are mostly circular...

Any ideas what I'm missing?

Are you using the following recommended procedure for selecting custom graphics?
Note: This procedure is a modified version of what is found in the section "Adding Custom Icons from Graphics Files" in the SolarWinds Network Atlas Administrator Guide.

Right-click the existing object icon, and then click Select Graphic.
Click How do I add custom graphics? at the bottom left of the Select Graphic Image window.
On your Orion NPM server, create the folder: %APPDATA%\SolarWinds\NetworkAtlas\Maps\Orion\<orion server address>\NetObjects\User Graphics.
Note: %APPDATA% is typically C:\Documents and Settings\<logged on user>\Application Data for both Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, and C:\Users\<logged on user>\AppData\Roaming for Windows Server 2008.
Save the graphics files to this folder.
Start Orion Network Atlas on the Orion server to finalize the additional icons.
After saving the graphics files to their location, you can assign them as an icon as you would any other graphic image.

To assign a custom icon to an object:

Right-click the object on the map, and then click Select Graphic.
Select User Graphics in the left pane.
Select your desired graphic image, and then click OK.

I am and they appear to be working correctly. The only remaining issue seems to be in my graphic format. transparent Gifs dont seem to be supported and I can't for the life of me figure out how to create a wmf with a transparent background... at least with the tools I have.

Any tips on how SW produces their icons to include transparent backgrounds?
