SNMP and Linux

We are trying to Monitor UP/DOWN status on a Linux box. I have 0 experience with setting up SNMP on Linux. Can someone please help me? When I think it is configured correctly, Orion is not seeing it. Thanks!

not 100% sure about this myself as I am just starting out..... however for my Sun boxes I had to scrap the built in snmp and use net-snmp instead... there is a version availble for Linux also I this would be your best bet...
