Alert on Node Pair in Group

We need to alert on two devices within a group when they go down. The group has other nodes within it, so we need to alert only on the nodes that begin with the similar name (i.e. ABC-1 and ABC-2). Is there an easy way to accomplish this?

Group B

B-1

B-2

Not completely sure of the scenario you're trying to alert on (ie. A-1 goes down, A-2 up, B-1 up, is that a problem?)

That said your options are probably:

1) subgroups

2) pain-in-the-ass logic

3) SWQL/SQL advanced alert.

The design of each of those is a little different depending on exactly what you need to happen

Assuming that I understand your request correctly I would have a sub group for each redundant pair and set the subgroup to best status, then set up an alert if a sub group is down. Something like

Group A

Group A routers - best status

A-1

A-2

Everything else

And alert logic that was group status is down and group rollup type is best would do the job.
