Report Granularity
jneiberger
How granular are the data points in historical reports? In other words, how is historical data aggregated?
I ask because I've been using another tool for a few days to graph bandwidth utilization and it's 6-hour granularity is 1 minute, but data older than that as aggregated into 10 minute chunks. I don't really like that behavior because it tends to round off the tops of my traffic peaks.
For example, I was watching a circuit yesterday and saw a whole bunch of peaks all the way to full utilization that lasted for a few minutes. When I ran a report today to show to my manager, all those peaks had been rounded off to spikes only going up to around 75-80%. I told him to pretend that those were spikes up to 95%+.
How does NPM handle this?
Thanks!
John

John,
Have a look at this post;
www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp
You can get down to 1 minute granularity on the web page by manually changing the URL query from 5 to 1 minute.
It would look something like this;
127.0.0.1/.../CustomChart.asp
..where the sample size is set to 1 Minute.
