MSQL error after upgrading NPM

Hey all,

Newbie user to both SQL and NPM here.  This isn't really a NPM issue, so let me know if this should be moved elsewhere, or is totally inappropriate for this forum.

We had NPM v10.7 as well as the SQL Database installed on a 2003 Server, and I recently installed NPM v12.0 on a new 2012 Server, leaving the database on the existing server.  In doing so, I had to change the password for the user to access the NPM database, as I did not know the existing password.  NPM is working on the new server using the new credentials.

However, I noticed today that the server the SQL database is on was running low on disk space, and the culprit is quickly expanding log files.  I went into event viewer and am receiving the attached error every 5-20 seconds.  I am unsure what exactly is trying to access the database, and where I can change the stored password!

Hey rabenbergd,

I don't think that your issue is related to windows log files. Few questions to help better understand your issue and help you resolve it.

• You started an entirely new DB in moving to Server 2012 correct?
• Are you familiar with the 'Solarwinds Database Manager'?
  • If yes
    • Open the manager
    • Expand the Server Instance
    • Right click over your database and select 'Database details'
    • Click on 'Tables' to the right of 'Properties'
    • Sort by 'Data size' and this should tell you what's consuming your space. You are likely to have traps/ trapvarbinds towards the top
  • If not
    • Navigate to your apps screen, look or search for 'Solarwinds Database Manager'
    • Select 'Add default server'
    • Expand the Server Instance
    • Right click over your database and select 'Database details'
    • Click on 'Tables' to the right of 'Properties'
    • Sort by 'Data size' and this should tell you what's consuming your space. You are likely to have traps/ trapvarbinds towards the top
• How many disk partitions do you have on your server?
  • Whats total disk space?
  • What is the current used space?
• Look at one of your nodes, is it actively tracking info (cpu/mem) or is that blank?
