Custom Interface Bandwidth - 2 Mbps = 2000000 or 2048000 ?

Hello,

I would like to know when I put a custom interface bandwidth what should I write in the boxes if I have a 2 Mbps ?

Should I write 2 000 000 or 2 048 000 ?

not sure if this will help but when you deal with Telephone Companies then it will always be set up as follows

T-1 = 1,544,000 or 1,536,000 depending on CSU overhead

E-1 = 2,048,000

but when using ethernet speed then it usually defaults back to true numbers where

2Mbps = 2,000,000

So depending on what you are monitoring will change what you should have in the field.

Sounds like you're asking for the technical definition of Mbps. Based on various different sources, the answer would be 2 000 000, as you put it.

I probably confusing with the problem of data storage.

A megabit (mb) actually has two different values depending on what the term is being used to describe. When used to describe data storage, a megabit (mb) is the equivalent of 2²⁰ or 1,048,576 bits. However, when used to describe data transfer rates, one mb equals 1,000,000 bits.
