Manipulate Orion Custom Poller data...

Question

Bear with me, I am trying to 'force' something that Orion currently doesn't do (or that I can find in my version).

I need to find out the best method to update a value in the custom poller table so that the new value is accepted and gets rolled to the other poller stats so it can be charted.

I am monitoring our current VPN tunnels on an ASA5540. I have to break this down to a subset for only certain tunnels. I have created a set of jobs external to Orion that grabs this data and puts a count into a flat file. I then scheduled a SQL job to run every 2 minutes and grab this value. I have 2 custom pollers, they monitor the same OID but I had to have some form of custom poller to eventually get a chart value from.

The second poller is grabbing the current VPN tunnel count but I want to update the value with the value from the flat file (this is working). I thought that if I ran a SQL job and update the Rate for the new custom poller in custompollerstatus that it would then eventually roll up to the hourly, etc tables. It is updating the custompollerstatus poller but when i look at the custompollerstatistics_detail it shows the original value.

When I run this query I get the value of 2 (which is correct)

Am I updating the wrong table?

Not instead of - in addition to. CustomPollerStatus always has the most recent polled value. For pollers configured to keep historical information (such as for charts), CustomPollerStatistics_Detail should have a whole sequence of values. You should update CustomPollerStatus and add a row to CustomPollerStatistics_Detail. Set MinRate, AvgRate, and MaxRate to the same value.

(The only reason the _Detail tables have all three of these fields is so that they will be the same shape as the _Hourly and _Daily tables, which use the Min/Max/Avg fields for summarization.)

Thanks for the reply. I see that the custompollerstatistics_detail table has a MinRate, AvgRate, MaxRate. You are saying to update the new value to this table instead of custompollerstatus - right? If so then which field gets updated?

I really hope you can help me figure this out.

When keeping historical data, we add the row to the CustomPollerStatistics_Detail table and update the CustomPollerStatus.  It's two operations.  If you want the values to be rolled up in hourly/daily, then you need to update the CustomPollerStatistics_detail table.
