Setting SNMP attributes when monitoring Latency

I have quite a few items we only want to see if its up/down. This is easy to do by not putting in SNMP communities which doesn't allow for device discovery or anything, but it does have one problem I haven't figured out.

We group our nodes by SNMP Location, then a custom "Node Type" attribute. If I try and set the SNMP location on a node that isn't doing SNMP, Orion seems to blank it out fairly quickly resulting in it going into an "unknown" location rather than being put in the right Location.

Is there any way to fix this? I would think if a device isn't set to discover via SNMP that we could customize some of these properties without Orion having to do that...

Hi Craig,

It seems you can't edit any of the discovered properties in Orion.
As a workaround, I suggest enabling SNMP to discover the device once & then remove the SNMP polling in Orion System Manager. It will then keep the discovered properties in the DB.

Well, if I could enable SNMP discovery on the device at all that wouldn't be a problem, but these are devices that don't do SNMP at all...

It sounds like using another custom property might be what you need to do, for the location. It's not necessarily as convenient as setting the string, but it will work with all devices once the parameter is set.
