Monitor Device Components

I'm sorry if this sounds like a NOOB question.

I'm using NPM (9.1) to monitor Servers, switch and routers.  It does an excellent job of informing me when we have a device down, or if something has rebooted, but I haven't found a way to report on issues related to Hardware.

In a nutshell, we have used Insight Manager in the past to monitor our HP servers, and part of what it does is send a page if there is an issue with a hardware component (i.e. Hard Drive failure, Overheating, Bad Fan, etc).  I'm trying to determine if NPM has such a capability that I'm simply overlooking, or do I need to dig into the Trap-Viewer and muddle my way through determining what traps to alert on.

Any direction on this would be great!!

My guess is that there are a couple of ways to do this:

1) Create a UnDP poller for each OID and of course alerting on the result of the UnDP poller accordingly. The toughest part is going to be finding the correct OID that would represent, say, hard drive failure. Unless it's obvious, this option might take a bit of time to setup.

2) Your second option would be to forward traps to NPM but you would still need something like Insight Manager to forward these traps. Again, build an alert that triggers based on conditions of the trap received.

3) You could use the Windows Event Forwarder utility to forward events as syslogs. I only threw this in as a suggestion in case you've found some logged events that correlate to a failed hardware component. I don't believe Windows has this capability built-in but just in case.
