Version upgrade and moving Db, any preference for order?

Ok, I am about to jump into upgrading an NPM server from 8.51 to 10.x via a few incremental upgrades per support. I also need to move the DB to a seperate server (db is currently co-located with the NPM software).

Just curious if there is any advantage one way or the other between moving the db first or last?

Depending on how difficult it is to relocate the DB in that version, I would think you would want to do that first. That way, as you upgrade and the DB changes in the upgrades happen, you'll get the performance benefit of having your DB on the separate server from your polling engine.

The only other reason I can think of to perhaps do the upgrades first is if your new SQL server version isn't compatible with 8.5.1.

I did decide to move the db first. It went pretty well. Am removeing SQL from the NPM box now and then will proceed up the upgrade ladder.
