NPM can't see volume status on Solaris 7, 8 and 9
BobFann
Dear all,
Is there anybody install NPM and success to see the Volume usage on Solaris 7, 8 or 9 platform? Please give me support~
The Solaris 10 can be monitored var NPM ver.7 without any further net-snmp configuration, but can't on Solaris 2.6~9. Only network and CPU usage can be monitored after net-snmp package installed and fine tuned(cost a lot of time).
Heared some people said voule information can't be gatered because Sun doesn't include the Volume MIB inside with previous version.
Is there anybody know this issue?
Please help me!
Thanks!
Bob

am i the only one that has this working???
I have net-snmp installed on Sun 2.8 and 2.9 devices and can monitor cpu, nic, menory and disk with no issues....
NOTE - ONLY USE NET-SNMP 5.09 AS NO OTHER VERSION WILL WORK!!!!
Also you will need to disable the Sun snmp tools otherwise you will need to assign different port numbers to the agents and this can get messy....
The config file only needs a few lines, community name, location and owner etc and that is about it...
You will need to create a startup script but this can be based on any on the other Sun ones in the init.d folder...
I have found 5.09 as stable as hell for the past 2 years and have had no reason to upgrade.... 5.1x will work ok until you try to monitor disk and then you will blow the agent stack and have to restart it to release....
Let me know if you have any questions on this and i will try to help.. all you need it the premade 5.09 binary (trust me the premade one works a treat!!).. a config file and a startup script.. with these 3 items you can be monitoring everything in less that 5 minutes.....
Happy hunting...
