NMP as in bound e-mail recipient

I looked on-line and scanned the guide to find out if NPM can receive formatted messages to display alert and / or events and I found no guidance.

Rationale for interest:

1. External vendors (cloud or SaaS solutions) can forward automated "alerts" to users about issues. If NPM could receive them then the event is tracked and operations can be made aware.

2. Application systems with e-mail capabilities could forward data to display an alert or event.

Since NPM is to be considered the operational console, I'd like to get all vendor and internal communications to Orion NPM for centralization and audit control.

If I understand you correctly, it sounds like you need to set up some traps or syslog messaging from the objects you want to track. For more information, see the SolarWinds Orion NPM Administrator Guide, specifically:

Sorry the data is not coming from traps, syslog, or snmp, but via SMTP (e-mail) as a formatted message.

This is found commonly with help-desk applications receiving data from other sources.

I doubt that Solarwinds itself will be able to receive emails, but if you have some other way to receive emails on either the Solarwinds server or another server you might be able to use APM to check for the error emails and trigger an alert.

its funny, i asked for exactly the same thing a couple o fyears ago, as it woudl be a massive help. imagine being able to send the rubbish emails that you get from some products and bespooke apps, into orion. orion can then wrap a lovely advanced alert around it, and fire it back out again... brilliant...
