Temperature Monitoring on Nexus 5000

Hi,

Has anyone been able to setup termperature monitoring for the Nexus 5K switches? Through forum searching, I discovered OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.91.1.1.1.1.4 will return this data. The problem I am having is that this OID returns two rows of data (Row ID 21590 and 21598). I know 21598 is the temperature of the switch, but I don't know what 21590 is.

I don't know if there is a way to create a UDP that will only poll the information I want. I tried to append 21598 to the end of the OID, but that didn't work.

What model Nexus are you monitoring? I just tried this on my Nexus 5010's, and I see what you're saying about the multiple rows of data (although I seem to return about 20+ rows on my boxes). As long as you don't mind some extra configuration on the UnDP side, you can append the specific row ID (i.e. 21598) to the OID, and change the SNMP get type to a GET instead of a GET TABLE. Expand the 'Show Advanced Options' item and you'll see it there in the middle of the box. You'll need to then configure individual UnDP's for each row ID.

Check the release notes on 10.3

Nexus 5000 series switches are now properly supported was one of the core fixes in this release. If you aren't using it I would plan an upgrade, and re check your Nexus switches. If you are on 10.3 I would open a support case.

I don't believe environmental monitoring is available out of the box on any NPM supported Cisco device. You still have to configure UnDP's for them.

Correct Environmental Monitoring of Network Hardware is not part of 10.3 and you still have to configure custom pollers using UNDP to monitor performance metrics like temperature.
