ASA Hardware Helth Sensors

Hi,

I want to monitor hardware health on my ASA devices. However they do not support the native poller, so I need to make a new one.

I have the correct OID's however it seems like it is not possible to create a new poller for this technology???

(I can only select CPU&memory, MultiCPU&Memory and Node Details)

I can create a UnDP poller, however thet does not work with the predefined views for Hardware sensors.

Do I miss something here?

Just curious if you are trying to monitor the base box or contexts. In multi-context mode, I haven't figured out how to monitor the system context, since it doesn't have an IP. I'm using a Cisco tool (CSM) to monitor my firewall health, so it isn't extremely critical to me.

I can discover the admin context as well as all of my security contexts using the normal Cisco pollers. I'm running current, but not the latest code. I have the same problem you are describing (discover cpu/mem but not interfaces) on some Nexus 5600s that are running new code. If you are running the latest code, then you might need to create the custom pollers. I didn't have much luck with the pollers. I'm stuck waiting on the next SW release.

I dont think this problem is due to new code, although I havent checked which system OID the ASA returns....

I am not sure which context I am monitoring (I am polling the admin context, but it returns things like powersupply and fan

status which is obviously the box itself).

I can see all the hardware sensors in the NCM_PHYSICAL_ENTITY table as they are returned by the default ENTITY-MIB.

However the values for the sensors which normally is returned by teh CISCO_ENV_MONITOR MIB is not there as the ASA

use the ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB instead (and the thresholds etc in the CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-EXT-MIB).

I see the problem with hardware sensors in ASA has been up here sinse 2008, but as far as I can see there is not yet a solution, which I think is strange. Thats why I feel I miss something.

It would have been no problem if I could create a custom Health Status poller as I can with the CPU&Memory pollers, but as far as I can see, that is not possible.

For my other devices I use the Out-of-the-box-View "Hardware Health" which very nicely shows all hardware sensors and values/thresholds.

But in order for this view to work I need to get the sensors into the HardwareSensors table in the OrionDB, and I dont see how I can accomplish that with UnDP.

You have gone much deeper into this than I have. I haven't messed with the db yet.

The only thing I feel like I'm missing are the physical interfaces, but I can get status and utilization data from the switch side. I can live with that.
