Adv. Alerting (a OR b OR c) AND x - how?

Hi,

I'm trying to setup an adv. Alert that triggers when Servers beginning with "AAA" OR "BBB" OR "CCC" change the Status to down.

I thought it might work with a Trigger for "all" including a SubTrigger for "any" ... but no

Is there a way to handle this?

Oli- this might be a bug with the "starting with " trigger...we've got something very similar, and it works just fine...

Hi,

thanks for the hint, your version works. The problem is that in this case I need "starts with" or "contains", because i don't want to change the rule everytime I add a node :-(

But It seems there is no way around

You could also use a custom property. On your Orion server, go to advanced features -> custom properties. The select Nodes, add a custom property, build it from scratch, make it a text property, give it a name, and finish. That way, you can group your servers however you like- for example, we have "server type" then for the servers, the custom properties are "SQL", "Application", "WWW" etc. Then when you are in Alerting, you can go to "Network nodes" -> "Custom Properties" is equal to "SQL" for example.

This way you can make groups with all of your machines and alert off of whichever group they are in etc.

The only downside to this approach, is you must remember to add the custom property when a new device is added.
It's just an extra step.
Using the NodeName as the trigger means alerting is automatically enabled when the device is added to monitoring.
