Alert Supression

I had a question on the best way to setup some alerts. We have lots of objects at given locations and obviously if a principal device like a router goes down we will lose everything under it. How using basic or advanced alerting can we setup a rule that if this main piece of equipment goes down it supresses all the subsequent down-node down-interface etc alerts that will be generated by everything else also losing connectivity?

This would require network topology information, which currently does not exist in Orion.

Actually I followed the supression example for the advanced alerter and it doesnt work.
