Help with monitoring temperatures on Cisco devices via the Universal device poller

I've recently installed NPM version 9 and would like to monitor the temperature values on different Cisco devices. I've tried using the universal device poller and adding the 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.3.1.1 MIB to certian Cisco devices which is the "CiscoEnvMonTemperatureStatusIndex" table . Under Advanced options I select "Raw" Value and "none" for the type and "Get Table" but whenever I test against a device it returns "The OID is not Supported". I've tried many different combinations of the advanced options to no avail. Can anyone tell me how to properly do this? I suspect there is something I must do to properly return the table values. Or would it be possible somebody would have a script I could download to import that might work better/quicker?

If you paste that OID, you don't need to touch the settings under "Show Advanced Options". If it's in our MIB database and the name and description auto-populate, my advice is to not even look at that option. That's why we hid it by default. You really only need that when you have an OID that's not in our database, which shouldn't be often.

"The OID is not supported" means that the OID won't work on the target device. You shouldn't get it for any other reason. That particular OID is just an Index, so it won't give you temperature values. You might want to do a MIB Walk (use the Engineer's Toolset or some similar tool) to see what your device will support.

I'm not in the office to check, but I don't think that you have the correct OID for the temperature status table.

Try ciscoEnvMonTemperatureStatusTable (1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.3).

Savell is correct. That is the OID that I use for my Cisco routers.

Your definetly right, when I selected a large number of devices, some of those returned the expected results. Am I right then to assume that some Cisco devices will not have a MIB for temperature? If so, is there an alternative environmental MIB to monitor to determine how close or far away from a catastrophe the device is? The reason I ask is that a complex of buildings that we maintain is losing is cooling capability (chiller facility), for maintenance, over the weekend. Due to this, I would like to monitor the temperature of the devices and understand where the threshold is for shutdown (or meltdown). In any event, with the MIB I first mentioned, I was able to finally find some devices that it could monitor but I still had to pick the column to monitor which means in this case, I'm only displaying the temperature rather than all of the data in regards to that MIB which I would have liked to show. Primarly, becuase the MIB also contains the thresholds in it. How can I show all the columns of a table I.e. 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.3 rather than drilling down further to the 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.3.1.3

I wouldn't worry about the actual threshold temperature for each device (they differ between device types). I would just use the table to monitor the CiscoEnvMonState column.

This column has 6 values based upon the warning and critical temp thresholds for the device..

1:normal
2:warning
3:critical
4:shutdown
5:notPresent
6:notFunctioning

It's then easy to define your alert for all devices that support this MIB.

The same status values exist for fan and power supply MIB tables (which makes all the alerts very similar for all of these).

Just to add, your column label should be the ciscoEnvMonTemperatureStatusDescr column (short description of the temp probe).

Many devices will have more than one probe (again with different thresholds) - displaying ciscoEnvMonTemperatureStatusDescr (label) with CiscoEnvMonState (date) will give you a nice temp status of the device.
