need help with making a report on MAC addresses

i've been trying to make the exact FILTER in Report Writer for only MAC addresses on each Node but it will not respond to any Interface FILTERS such as "not empty" or "empty" but will always include other interfaces from the Node but those Interfaces do not list a MAC address.

i'm looking to list each interface with a MAC address along with its Node name, but as i said, anyway i go with a FILTER it will include those interfaces which are BLANK.

When you create the filter for the report use Physical Address is not equal to and then leave the criteria blank.

I've noticed the "empty"/"not empty" problem before. I normally resolve it by putting in a filter of "greater than 1". It's a safe bet that you don't have any MAC addresses on your network that are '000000000000'. :-)

There's no UnDP involved. It is pretty much a simple report based off "Current Status of Nodes, Interfaces, .etc"

The trick obviously lies in the FILTER design which I just can't hit it right for some reason.

Here's that simple Report:

SELECT
Interfaces.PhysicalAddress AS Physical_Address, Interfaces.Caption AS Interface_Caption, Nodes.Caption AS NodeName
FROM
Nodes INNER JOIN Interfaces ON (Nodes.NodeID = Interfaces.NodeID)

I'll leave the FILTER up to you - I've tried it all kinds of different ways using EMPTY and NOT EMPTY and the MAC greater than 1 ( per bleearg13's suggestion) and have not been successful.

And hey bleearg13 - i do have some Cisco 6500 switch ports with all zeroes

EDIT: Solution already posted above by sedmo...

I think I got it working. The empty address are not really empty, there is a space in the field.

I am not sure how to specify that the physical address is not equal to ' ' in the Report Writer as it does not seem to accept it. Anyway here is the SQL query you can use in an advanced SQL report.

SELECT Interfaces.PhysicalAddress AS Physical_Address,
Interfaces.Caption AS Interface_Caption,
Nodes.Caption AS NodeName

FROM
Nodes INNER JOIN Interfaces ON (Nodes.NodeID = Interfaces.NodeID)

WHERE
Interfaces.PhysicalAddress IS NOT NULL AND
Interfaces.PhysicalAddress <> '000000000000' AND
Interfaces.PhysicalAddress <> ' '

Awesome Why a loopback or slip interface would have a physical address is beyond me.

Makes me think of the need for new FEATURE REQUEST!

How about a MAC report that will find the Vendor info (the first six characters in the MAC) and display it into the Orion report?

I've always used this site to find Vendor Info but there's probably some other good ones out there... http://www.coffer.com/mac_find/
