I would like to see NPM have the ability to monitor F5 BigIP LTM's out of the box with the ability to select Virtual Servers to monitor just as you would an interface.
Hi slinky--
Marked for the PM to review.
M
Something we will review and consider for a future release, but just to set expectations this is not on our short term plans meaning next release we are working on.
I am really dissapointed to hear that. Because this product is market leader and there are numerous users using it. We try to do with ugly/useless templates.
If you are community driven you should consider the community. Am I wrong?
Hi ctopaloglu,
Sorry to hear about your disappointement, but as you can imagine, being community driven does not mean we have the bandwidth to do everything.
Also, some customers were able to perform successfuly minimal integration of their F5 devices, with the UnDP.
All that being said, we see the F5 as a growing requirement and we are refining our plans. In particular, we are thinking at how we would "model" the F5 in NPM: like we handle interfaces as you suggest, or similar to the virtualization model, or following the wireless model.
I will contact you offline to drill deeper into these questions and get more input from you.
Last but not least, I would like to hear others express here their needs for F5 devices native support (which ones, urgency, what model...).
Thanks to all for your input.
Hey Francois.
We've already discussed this multiple times, but, I'll post here as well to join the cause:)
We require the ability to collect virtual server Bytes IN/OUT, Connections and Requests. The F5 enterprise OID structure is the same across F5 platforms.
Thanks again.-Adam

Hi-
Chiming in. We have F5 BIG IPs with VIPs. We'd love to more easily monitor and separate the devices and treat them as separate objects much more easily than we do now.
Right now, we have UNDP's pulling table data, and then our SW SysLog listening for alerts from the F5's, and then alerting based on those SysLog Traps.

Hello Francois,
We have the BigIP LTM-8900-R V10 that we would like to monitor as well.
Any update on this? Looks like it is forgotten
No it is not.
We will contact some of you off line with additional questions.
Also here, LTM8900s & 6900's we'd like to monitor
Just to let you know. We are using latest version (11).
We really need this feature. I hope SW will implement that.
We need too.. +1 for this feature
I would also be interested in better support for F5s out of the box and seperation of VIPs/servers etc...
When?
thanks for inputs - we are actively considering this feature for future. I'd appreciate more details and because of this I'll be glad if you will respond to my private message and attend a short chat about how do you think this feature work from your perspective.
thanks,
Michal
+1 for this feature
Our engineers are currently looking to this and they would really appreciate if you could share MIB walks of your F5 LTM devices with us.
If you can help us you can upload them here to this thwack forum or contact me directly.
I can probably provide some F5 MIB walks if you haven't already got some...I'll probably need to scrub some information first...
Hi joelgarnick,
that will be a big help. We already have some but more is better in this case. You can use this tool SolarWinds Knowledge Base :: SolarWinds SNMP Walk: A new tool for collecting SNMP MIB walks
It would be also perfect if you guys can vote for your favorite feature here: http://thwack.solarwinds.com/polls/1027
I would like to also ask you, in this specific F5 thread, if you feel that build-in F5 support in NPM (including connections, throughput and virtual server monitoring) has a higher priority for you than a global HW health monitoring for all major vendors. I know that both features are important for a lot of our users and I'm not saying we are going to eliminate some of these requests but it would help us to understand your priorities.
thanks for your help!
Michal,
My personal preference is that this would take priority. As someone stated earlier, F5 is a market leader in the load balancing arena and I am sure this would benefit a large base of users. We currently use Enterprise Manager for collecting statistics but it is very clunky.
